On August 5, VirtuSense Technologies invited healthcare thought leaders to its exclusive, inaugural New Evolution in Healthcare Technology Summit, also known as NEXT Summit, to discuss the future of healthcare delivery.

The event was held at the state-of-the-art Bradley University Convergence Center in Peoria, Ill. Attendees networked while enjoying pastries and coffee before the sessions started.

Our host for the Summit was Meenakshy Aiyer, MD, Regional Dean at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria.

The day kicked off with an exclusive address from Seema Verma, the former administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. She talked about the great potential for new technologies to expedite affordable and sustainable healthcare delivery for all Americans.

Retired U.S. Air Force Major General Gary Dylewski was our keynote speaker. As a leading war-time general, he spoke about preparing and leading through a crisis—much of which was comparable to the fight against COVID-19. He said the greatest leaders all share one trait: Compassion.

Strategies to Alleviate Today’s
Clinical Challenges

Moderated by Ray Gensinger, MD, CIO, Hospital Sisters Health System led this discussion with John Vozenilek, MD, VP and CMO, Simulation, Professor of Medicine and Engineering, Tony Hilton, DrPH, Safe Patient Handling and Mobility National Program Manager, Veterans Health Administration Central Office; and Charlotte Ipsan, Chief Administrative Officer, Norton Women's & Children's Hospital. They talked about the need for health systems to invest in technology and tools to prevent patient and staff injuries. Citing workers' compensation costs that can cost as much as half a million dollars per day, incurred by completely avoidable injuries, the panel questioned the logic behind hospitals that resist preventative technologies because of high upfront costs.
